Following a very successful career internationally in South Africa, he joined the institute of chartered accountants in Australia in 2010, paving the way for accelerated success down under.
He started his professional career in 1990 in public accounting in Cape Town, South Africa whilst simultaneously finishing his post graduate studies, obtaining an Honours Degree in Accounting Science in 1991 and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1992. During this period, he gained invaluable experience in public accounting and auditing.
He, as an alternative to compulsory military duty at the time, gained experience in taxation in the public sector and enrolled with the South African Revenue Services. During this time, he furthered his studies in Indirect Taxation and gained experience in various direct and indirect taxes, customs & excise duties.
In 1996, he joined the private sector as Internal Auditor and following intense process and systems experience, assisted with a SAP implementation. In the same year he was approached by Industrialist and philanthropist, Anton Rupert (founder of Remgro & Richemont), to serve on the boards and audit committees of Peace Parks Foundation and WWF, where he served until 2010, but still holds trusteeship.
In 2001 he was appointed as Chief Audit Executive of DISTELL Group Ltd, a large listed beverage company in South Africa. During the following years, he implemented Audit methodologies and practices that was described by KPMG as unparalleled as well as very efficient and extremely cost effective. He also served on the Audit Committee of the City of Cape Town in a non-executive position, gaining experience in the public sector and ploughing back experience obtained in commerce.
In 2013, he was appointed CFO of the Southern African operations of DISTELL, a business unit contributing 75% of the group results, with a turnover in excess of AUD2 billion. During this time he played an integral part in renegotiating and intrenching trade terms to grocers, trade marketing disciplines and superior financial results.
Planned years in advance, he spread his wings down under and joined a start-up Corporate Advisory firm, 180 Partners. Over the past number of years in Australia, he has been part of commercialising IP, financing, refinancing, business acquisition, business turnaround, business sales, business reengineering, systems re-implementation, organisation and process reengineering, IPO and outsourced CFO services.
He has earned the respect of his clients and the finance world alike and continues to build on the reputation based on integrity, value add and results.
